As a wedding videographer who has had the privilege of capturing love stories across Central Pennsylvania, I’m always excited to discover new venues that offer something truly special. When Illy and Sarah chose Harmony Forge Inn for their wedding day, I knew I was in for a treat – but I had no idea just how extraordinary this venue would turn out to be.
A Step Back in Time Along Spring Creek
The property dates back to the 1790s, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally the site of the Harmony Forge/Milesburg Iron Works, today the Harmony Forge Mansion survives, along with a large antique barn and a number of other outbuildings. This beautiful venue sits on 38 acres in Bellefonte, PA, nestled along the pristine waters of Spring Creek.
The history of this location is absolutely fascinating. From its earliest history, the economy of Bellefonte and the surrounding area centered around the iron works. There were many factors advantageous to the location of this industry in the Bellefonte area: a good supply of easily obtainable, good quality limestone, timber, iron ore, and coal; and, Spring Creek provided water power for machinery. The Harmony Forge Mansion dates to the late 1790’s or early 1800’s.
What makes this location even more special is its connection to Spring Creek, which means that you can enjoy fishing, kayaking, or canoeing. Spring Creek is a Class A wild trout stream that offers excellent fishing, only steps from our front door. The natural beauty of this waterway has been drawing visitors since the 1790s, when early settlers boasted about the abundant trout and game in the area.
A Perfect Summer Wedding Day
The day was absolutely beautiful, but admittedly a bit hot for a summer wedding in Central Pennsylvania. However, the folks at Harmony Forge were already prepared with their Big Ass branded fans keeping the rustic barn as cool as possible for guests. This attention to detail and preparation showed me immediately that this venue truly cares about their couples and their guests’ comfort.
With the bride and groom adorned in their stunning outfits, the ceremony was serenaded by a beautiful violin accompaniment and the natural choir of cicadas that provided the perfect summer soundtrack. Everything went off without a hitch, creating the kind of magical moments that make my job as a videographer an absolute joy.
The food was amazing throughout the day, and the DJ from Nittany Entertainment kept things flowing seamlessly from ceremony to reception. It’s always a pleasure to work with vendors who understand how to make a wedding day feel effortless for the couple and their families.
Meeting the Dream Team Behind the Magic
What was truly impressive, beyond the wedding itself, was meeting the new owners of this incredible venue and finding such commonality with them. They shared their dream with me and opened up about the process of taking over and purchasing this 40-acre venue complete with farm fields, several barn buildings, and two homes – including the Inn itself, which serves as the main location for the bridal suite.
The landscape and property is just absolutely amazing. As someone who appreciates the beauty of rural Pennsylvania, I have to admit that owning something like this would be a dream of our own someday. The rolling fields, historic buildings, and peaceful creek setting create an atmosphere that’s both grand and intimate.
Incredible Value for an Unforgettable Experience
I was quite astounded to learn something that sets Harmony Forge apart from many other wedding venues: they don’t have multiple weddings every weekend. In fact, they rent out the entire property for the weekend for under $8,000. In today’s wedding market, where couples often struggle with venue costs that can easily exceed their entire budget, this is remarkable value.
If you’re looking for a venue that will surely impress you and your guests without needing a loan from the bank, Harmony Forge Inn is absolutely the venue for you. You get exclusive access to 40 acres of pristine Pennsylvania countryside, multiple historic buildings, and a level of privacy that’s becoming increasingly rare in the wedding industry.
The Ultimate Wedding Coordinator
Speaking of dream teams, if you’re looking for a coordinator with a personality the size of Manhattan and the talent of a Van Gogh painting, you’ll want to check out Taylor Designs and ask for Gela. She is absolutely incredible and was a pleasure to work with throughout Illy and Sarah’s wedding day.
Gela will take care of all your needs, but what really impressed me was how she treated the entire wedding vendor team like family. That’s the kind of dream team approach that most brides would die for – when your coordinator makes sure everyone feels valued and supported, it shows in the final result. The day flows better, the vendors perform at their best, and ultimately, the couple gets the wedding of their dreams.
A Venue That Captures Hearts and History
Harmony Forge Inn represents everything I love about wedding venues in Central Pennsylvania. It combines rich historical significance with modern comfort, natural beauty with thoughtful amenities, and intimate charm with impressive scale. The venue’s connection to the iron works heritage of the region adds depth and character that you simply can’t replicate in newer facilities.
For couples considering their venue options, I encourage you to visit Harmony Forge Inn and experience it for yourself. Walk the grounds along Spring Creek, explore the historic mansion, and envision your own love story unfolding in this remarkable setting.
As a wedding videographer, I can honestly say that some venues just feel special from the moment you arrive. Harmony Forge Inn is definitely one of those places where magic happens naturally, and where every couple’s story becomes part of the venue’s continuing legacy.
